I just saw this on the Sony board -
boards.sonypictures.com/soaps/showthread.php?t=105455
- and cast my vote for Jay as Best Supporting.
Jay has been incredible this year, doing the best work of his career to date. He's been adding so much to Philip - so many layers and shades that aren't on the written page. I truly feel that Days has finally realized what they have in Jay - Philip's story the past few months has increased in screen time, he's become a front burner character - with a life, and sub-plots, outside of Belle and Shawn (finally.)
To me, no one deserves that nomination more than Jay. I've been writing the two publications about the quality and caliber of his work - one letter was just published in SOW, with the heading 'EMMY-level work' - with Jay's photo next to it. Of any letter I've written to SOW and SOD, that is the one I'm most happy about making it to print. Jay's been outstanding - I hope others post in support of Jay in this thread (or e-mail and write TPTB.) NO ONE on Days is more deserving of this recognition than he is.
I've posted my actual e-mail to SOW below. They included all but one line from my letter - I've included it.
Thanks!
Steve

SUBJECT: Jay Kenneth Johnson deserves an Emmy Nomination
To whom it may concern:
I've watched every episode of Jay Kenneth Johnson's return to Days since his 'debut' in mid January of this year. He has given one outstanding performance after another. When I thought he couldn't get any better, Ed Scott took over as producer, and made the show slow down a bit, take more time with rehearsal and taping. That extra care shows - Jay's been phenomenal. The subtly, the shading, the layers - the intensity, the vulnerability. He does it, shows it, expresses it all. Jay doesn't act the emotion, he lives it, experiences it - so that we experience it as well. I truly hope TPTB at Days keep Jay in mind when submitting lists to the Television Academy for Best Supporting Actor Daytime Emmy consideration - no actor deserves that nomination more than Jay.
Thanks for reading.
Sincerely,
Steve O'Brien
